I really do think early lung cancer detection is important; however when I tried to obtain a low dose CT scan (I planned to pay out of pocket costs with my own funds) with a script from my physician, they wouldn't do it saying I didn't 'fit' the criteria.

I am a non-smoker, not quite 50 years of age. The ladies in my family for three generations died of lung cancer. My mother and grandmother smoked, but my great grandmother did not! I was around secondhand smoke quite a bit and a was a light smoker in my twenties on and off.

So, I tried to have this screening test done but they won't do it! There are still a lot of barriers, which is crazy, because women's number 1 cancer killer IS LUNG CANCER!!!

There is still much work to be done for the folks that want to be screened and have a legitimate reason to do so. Some people may have a genetic predisposition to this cancer even if they did not smoke heavily or at all!!!!
