I am a scientist and was diagnosed with the affliction of COPD during my 55th year. I have been under the care of very good primary and pulmonary physicians for the last 33 years.
I had several ER visits and hospitalizations mainly for pneumonia and twice for sepsis and septic shock. I had to be under oxygen supplementation from time to time.
At present I am not needing oxygen supplementation. My condition is stabilized by the use of inhalers. I developed more recently Hypercapnia ( too much CO2 in the arterial blood) which has been controlled by the use of BIPAP machine since about 10 months.
I was told by my pulmonary physician that I need to use the BIPAP machine regularly and my arterial gases will be monitored every three months.
