National Women's Lung Health Week: Second Week in May*
National Women's Health Week is an observance led by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office on Women's Health. The goal is to empower women to make their health a priority, while providing women help to understand the steps they can take to improve their health. During this time and throughout the month of May, LUNG FORCE leads a #TurquoiseTakeover. Turquoise is the official color of women's lung health, and through LUNG FORCE we unite to spread awareness by turning turquoise. From landmarks, to city skyscrapers to Facebook & Twitter profiles—together, we turn turquoise!
*Due to COVID-19, this year’s Turquoise Takeover celebration will take place June 14-20, 2020
Lung Cancer Awareness Month: November
November is Lung Cancer Awareness Month—it is a time to raise awareness about lung cancer, why lung health is important and help make a difference. LUNG FORCE is uniting women and their loved ones across the country to stand together against lung cancer—the #1 cancer killer of women and men—by encouraging them to share their voice.
LUNG FORCE Advocacy Day: Spring (March or April)
During LUNG FORCE Advocacy Day, our lung cancer advocates nationwide come together to urge senators and representatives in Washington, D.C. to support robust and sustained federal funding increase for lung cancer research. There's still more to be done and you can help—here's how:
- Contact your local state senator and representative—urge them to increase federal funding for the #1 cancer killer: lung cancer.
- Share your voice on why advocating for increased funding to find a cure for lung cancer is important for you.
- Share with friends and family on social media to empower them to get involved as well!
Not What You Think
Every two and half minutes, someone in the United States is told that they have lung cancer, and every single day 400 people lose their lives to this devastating disease. These startling, heart-wrenching facts are unknown to many people, making lung cancer a silent killer. We are partnering with Cancer Treatment Centers of America to rally support and action to defeat the number one cancer killer. Through an interactive social media campaign, Not What You Think will encourage new supporters to join the force against lung cancer. Learn more about Not What You Think.
Lock Up Lung Cancer
Lung cancer is the #1 cancer killer of women. The rate of women dying from the disease has increased 79 percent in the last 40 years. And since the mid-1970s, lung cancer diagnoses among women have been on the rise. It's a hidden issue. It's a women's issue. And too few live to tell their stories.
If a serial killer were as prolific as lung cancer at taking the lives of women, it would be Public Enemy #1. That's why LUNG FORCE launched a campaign to Lock Up Lung Cancer and expose lung cancer as the #1 cancer killer of women through the "true crime" genre.
No one is safe from lung cancer. Find out how to protect yourself, and those you love, from this hidden killer. Learn more about Lock Up Lung Cancer.
