My father, a life time smoker, finally quite when he retired at 65, however 20 years later at 85 he contracted lung cancer which did take his life. My mother who never really smoked developed COPD and eventually lung cancer which was attributed to secondhand smoke. Unlike my father her last years were miserable with a constant need for oxygen and very limited mobility. My younger sister also died of cancer though not lung related.

I made a commitment that I would always contribute to cancer research and as I've always been an avid cyclist the "cycle the seacoast" has been a good venue for me. A couple years ago I thought to try and stimulate my grandson to join me and eventually to carry on someday when I'm unable.
