This isn't my story as much as my mom's story. It is short- her life was too short. At 63 she was diagnosed with stage 3 lung cancer. She was a smoker, but not for about 25 years. She quit so this wouldn't happen to her. Both her parents died of lung cancer. Her first course of treatment was a pneumonectomy. After the surgery she seemed fine and the next day she was sitting up and out of bed. She looked great. However, on the 4th day after her surgery she developed Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome and passed away a few days later. When a family member gets a diagnosis of cancer you think that you at least have a few more months. It was such a shock that within a few weeks after her diagnosis she had died.
