Kennydene T., HI

How I was diagnosis with lung cancer was going into to the ER at Kapiolani Women and Children Hospital feeling sick, running tests and the results came back with one kidney stone. I was put on medication for the stone and went to see a urologist with Straub medical center. I did a ct scan the day before seeing him and with that result I had passed the stone but found something else wrong. Went to see my primary care doctor and did more test and it is confirmed that I have stage 3 non-small cell squamous lung cancer.

I did the whole shabang of test biopsy was referredto an oncologist, then my chemotherapy oncologist. I did all six weeks of radiation and six weeks of chemo finished the first set on March 6, 2017. Then on Sept. 1, 2017 was the last of the second round of chemo, and I was in remission. I was planning on going back to work in May of 2018, but did my one month check up with a ct scan and apparently found that the cancer is back and now I am waiting to do another round of test to see which medication do I start taking. I am not able to go back to work so I am taking medical retirement. In the meantime I have signed up for online college and been doing this for almost one year.

I am taking my Bachelor's in business concentration in management, which I am determined to finish in three more years. While taking care of my health and keeping my mind busy this is what I chose to do and show my grandchildren that we can do anything we put our heart, mind and soul into it. So now I am on an inhaler along with some other medications to help me get through the day. I was a smoker when I was diagnosis.
