Nora P., NY

My primary doctor and I decided I needed to get a scan since I started smoking at the age of nine! So at the age of 54, in 2016, I got a low dose CT Scan. Well, in early 2018 when I had a physical with my primary care physician,  she told me that I had a spot on my lungs and she stated that I needed to see someone. I had a suspicious spot on the left lower lobe of my lung. (At this stage, I was still smoking, cigarettes as well as marijuana). I went through testing, stopped smoking completely on June 28, 2018 and on July 11, 2018 had surgery five days before my 56th birthday.

Thank God that I was tested as I feel that my doctor saved my life. If she had not spoken to me about getting scanned I wouldn't have even thought/or known about it. I agreed to get tested, and yes it was scary, however, knowledge is power. Lung cancer is a silent killer! I believe everyone should get screened. Silence is a killer when it comes to the lungs. I am so blessed to be a survivor. My angels, as well as my doctor, saved me. As of today, I have had four CT scans and appointments over the last six months and I have no new spots!
