Clean air matters to Michael, my 11-year-old son and me. Michael was diagnosed with asthma two years ago and it’s been an uphill battle ever since. While other moms spend their Saturdays cheering on their son at a soccer game, I’ve spent countless weekends the last two years in emergency rooms.

Although he keeps his inhaler with him at all times, external conditions, such as humidity, frigid weather and air pollution, can trigger a life-threatening asthma attack for Michael. Any mother with a sick child can agree that there is no worse feeling than watching your child suffer.

Attending asthma camps by the American Lung Association in Pennsylvania helps Michael understand how to manage his asthma, but managing it is not the same as a cure. I’m proud to support the American Lung Association and its efforts to fight lung disease and to ensure clean, healthy air for all Pennsylvanians.

Show your support by contacting your elected officials and join the fight to protect the public from the harmful effects of air pollution. My family is one of the many across Pennsylvania who have been affected by lung disease, and your support could lead to a cure.
