I currently work as a public health professional in Los Angeles County, but what originally sparked my interest in working in public health was growing up near Richmond, California. Richmond is the site of a Chevron Refinery, which is relevant when you learn that the prevalence of asthma amongst Californians is 13%, but is 25% amongst people living in Richmond. The location you live shouldn't double your changes of developing asthma, air quality shouldn't be a socioeconomic issue. Change is necessary and it is necessary now.
