Edward J. Campbell, M.D.

Dr. Campbell received his medical training at Washington University, from professors who pioneered American research in causes of pulmonary emphysema in general, and alpha₁-antitrypsin deficiency in particular. He has been involved in basic and clinical research related to alpha₁-antitrypsin deficiency since the mid-1980s and is one of the world’s thought leaders regarding this condition. Dr. Campbell has directed Alpha1Center, a clinical laboratory devoted to detecting alpha₁-antitrypsin deficiency, since 1991.
